Purpose:

this study was performed to evaluate of corneal densitometry and cell count after Melles and Big-bubble techniques in patients undergoing corneal transplant

Methods:

in this clinical trial study 50 eyes of 42 keratoconic patients who candidate for corneal transplant were enrolled and randomly divided in two groups. The first group was operated by Melles and the second group was operated by big-bubble method. Outcomes of corneal cell count and densitometry were compared between the two groups.

Results:

There were no significant difference between two groups in UDVA, CDVA, endothelial cell count and corneal densitometry in central and posterior areas between two techniques. But percentage of transparency in anterior was better in Melles group

Conclusion:

the use of Melles in patients undergoing keratoplasty with DALK method is an acceptable compared with the big-bubble ,but since few studies have been done in this area, it is suggested that more studies are done with more sample size in a broader level.
