Purpose:

: to compare retrobulbar and ,bulbar blood flow consist of resistant index (RI) in ophthalmic artery (OA) & central retinal artery (CRA),superior ophthalmic vein (SOV)flow, in thyroid eye disease (TED) after orbital wall decompression by color doppler ultrasonography.

Methods:

In a prospective interventional study 24 orbit of 14 TED patients without history of previous orbital surgery undewent orbital wall decompression .RIs of arteries, maximum & minimum velocities of veins were measured by color doppler ultrasonography before andv 3month after surgery by an expert radiologist.

Results:

: RIs of OA & CRA were decreased significantly after orbital wall decompression (inferior or inferior & medial wall) compared with before decompression(P<0.001). SOV maximum & minimum velocity were significantly increased after orbital wall. (inferior or inferior & medial wall) (P<0.001)Proptosis was significantly decreased after decompression .No significant changes was observed in the IOP before & after orbital wall decompression.

Conclusion:

Color Doppler imaging can be used as a safe noninvasive method for evaluation of efficacy of orbital wall decompression in thyroid eye disease.
