Purpose:

To compare the lamina cribrosa thickness, measured by Enhanced Depth Imaging-optical coherence tomography (EDI OCT), between eyes of juvenile open angle glaucoma (JOAG) primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PXG) and primary angle closure glaucoma(PACG) patients .

Methods:

In this prospective, cross-sectional study optic nerve heads were scanned using EDI OCT, and laminar thickness was measured on mid-superior, central, and mid-inferior regions of vertical midline of the optic disc and the intra-eye difference of lamina cribrosa thickness in VF-affected eyes were analyzed using the paired t test.

Results:

This study included 33 eyes of JOAG patients ,29 eyes of POAG patients,29 eyes of PXG patients and 29 eyes of PACG patients. The mean lamina cribrosa thickness was 106.5 ± 10.4 ?m in the JOAG eyes, 140.79 ± 39 ?m in the POAG eyes , 96.04±19.4 ?m in the PXG eyes and 140.48 ± 39.1 in PACG eyes, respectively. There were no significant differences between the lamina cribrosa thickness in the eyes with POAG and PACG eyes (p=0.9) but differences between other groups were statistically significant (p<05 ) and PXG eyes had thinnest lamina cribrosa thickness and compared with the JOAG group, the PXG group demonstrated a significantly thinner mean lamina cribrosa thickness P=0.001).

Conclusion:

Eyes with PXG demonstrate a thinner lamina cribrosa thickness compared with JOAG eyes, POAG eyes and PACG eyes.
